For much of my childhood, we didn't have cable at home. The National TV programs in Senegal started early in the morning and ended in the evening. The rest of the time, the TV screen played a faint beep over SMPTE bands. I used to sit and stare at them before and after school, imagining what could be going on behind their stillness. The world moved around me as I sat there reshaping the bands in my head. Re/Down/Loading is part of 'Sandwyrm Errors', a body of work that reimagines the SMPTE bands that filled so much of my day and were, incidentally, my first introduction to digital art and design.
