Peter Beyls
Peter Beyls is an artist whose work integrates computer science and the arts. Belys employs software to both design and construct generative systems in music, visual art and hybrid categories. Beyls was one of the first to work in interdisciplinary AI, interactive real-time music systems and algorithmic art. He utilizes a computer as a partner in creation, which he calls “conceptual navigation,” where programming becomes aesthetic reflection and the investigation of unclear motives.
Peter Beyls, with a PhD from the University of Plymouth, is an educated electronic engineer, music historian and computer scientist. For over 25 years, he taught digital culture at LUCA Brussels and the School of Arts, University College Ghent, where he founded the Interaction Lab. His artworks have been showcased in international exhibitions like Siggraph, ICMC, ISEA and more.
